2025-26 Wrestling Season Preview

PREVIEW: 2025-26 Wrestling

10/28/2025 1:00:00 PM

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team begins its 2025-26 season Saturday at the Tonee Ellis Memorial Invitational at Alvernia College.

The Raiders graduated just one senior from last season's squad that won seven dual meets, and will send their deepest team in years to Alvernia thanks to a strong senior class and several key transfers.

"[The seniors] know what to expect from practice, they know what to expect from matches and how we prepare," said head coach Seth Bloomquist. "Having only graduated one, you hope that these guys don't just sustain their performance but reach a higher level."

Schedule

Following the trip to Alvernia, the Raiders will remain on the road with dates at Frostburg State (Nov. 9) and at Gettysburg (Nov. 19).

Their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule begins just before Thanksgiving, traveling to Millersville to take on the Marauders Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.

SU's first home meet will take place in the New Year as they welcome Gannon to Heiges Field House Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. Shippensburg will then conclude its regular season with a three-match homestand in early February, playing host to Felician (Feb. 4), Kutztown (Feb. 13) and Elizabethtown (Feb. 14).

Roster

Shippensburg enters the 2025-26 season with 21 wrestlers. SU returns 14 grapplers from the 2024-25 roster. New to the wrestling room are four first-year recruits and three transfers.

Six wrestlers are operating as seniors in 2025: Cole Lang, Owen Koch, Kyler Everly, Trey Shoemaker, Anthony Lavish and graduate Nick Delp.

From an athletic eligibility perspective, the team has six seniors, five juniors, two sophomores, and eight freshmen.

Coaching Staff

Bloomquist returns for his 17th season as Shippensburg University's head coach and the 2025 season marks his 22nd overall with the Raiders. During his tenure, Shippensburg has sent a total of 20 wrestlers to nationals and garnered six NCAA Division II All-Americans.

He will be joined in the wrestling room by assistant coach Luke Etter. Etter, in his first season on the SU staff, competed for the Raiders from 2011-15.

Notes

The Raiders' six-member senior class includes three four-year starters: Everly, Koch and Shoemaker.

Six of the seven newcomers occupy the lower weight classes (125, 133, 141), with the only exception being freshman and 285-pound heavyweight Cameron Montgomery. The three transfers include a pair of wrestlers from Division I Bloomsburg (Cole Coffin, Joseph Ney).

The SU lineup returns five wrestlers that boasted double-digit win totals in 2024-25. They are led by 18-match winner Shoemaker and 17-match winners Diesel Koser and Mike Trainor. Trainor (4th at 149 pounds) and Koser (sixth at 197) both placed at regionals last season, while Shoemaker's 33 career pins are tied for the fourth most in program history.

Delp rounded out the regional place-winners with a fourth-place finish at 165. The SU middleweight picked up nine wins after debuting in Spring 2025.
