RECAP: Volleyball rallies to defeat Millersville in four sets

Kolivoski and Davis combine for eight aces

The Shippensburg University volleyball team rallied from a first-set loss Saturday to defeat Millersville in four in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Pucillo Gymnasium. Set scores were 16-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-11.
 
Shippensburg (15-6, 7-0 PSAC) ended the match with 50 kills and a .262 hitting percentage – besting its highest away attack percentage set yesterday at West Chester (.261). Millersville (5-15, 1-6) recorded 36 kills in the match, hitting .092. The Raiders delivered eight aces to the Marauders four. SU posted a season-high 13 blocks while allowing just four.
 
Gracen Nutt led the Raider offense with 13 kills, swinging .355 from the floor. Hailey Cappleman contributed 10 kills; she hit .381 on 21 total attempts.
 
Isabelle Bombas smacked seven kills with an .875 hitting percentage, committing no errors on eight swings. She added a match-high three solo blocks and three block assists.
 
Kearstin Davis totaled 43 assists, served four aces and recorded six digs. Shay Kolivoski recorded a match-high 23 digs and four aces.
 
The first set featured 11 ties between the two teams. The Marauders took the lead after an 8-0 run, 18-12. The Raiders came within four after a 2-0 run, 18-14. Millersville closed set one with a 7-2 scoring stretch, 25-16.
 
A 6-1 scoring stretch from SU that included a pair of kills from Nutt, and a Davis ace, gave SU an early lead. Millersville answered with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 10. A 3-0 run from the Marauders put them in the lead, 14-13. Bombas delivered a kill to spark a 5-0 Raider run, 19-15. A pair of kills from Cappleman increased the SU lead to five, 23-17. Davis recorded her second ace of the set to tie the match, 25-18.
 
The Raiders saw their first lead of more than two points after a 4-0 run that started with a block from Bombas, 11-6. Bombas and Nutt recorded kills to increase the lead, 14-8. Bombas, Davis and Cappleman notched kills to put together a 3-0 run, 17-10. The Raiders closed set three with a 5-0 run, 25-15. The Raiders hit .556 from the floor in the third set – their best of the day, committing just two errors on 27 swings.  
 
The Raiders carried the momentum to set four, opening with a 9-0 run that featured a pair of aces from Kolivoski. Davis recorded a pair of aces in a 5-0 run to increase the SU lead, 14-1. The Marauders completed a 5-1 scoring stretch to cut the deficit, 21-10. Kylie Snyder recorded a kill to put SU at match point, 24-11. Riley Blank ended the match with a kill, 25-11.
 
Millersville got eight kills from Taylor Welter and Sam White. Kat Dalessio recorded 16 assists and two aces. The Marauders saw their best hitting percentage in set one, swinging .313, totaling 13 kills on just three errors. 

Shippensburg will return home Friday to take on Shepherd at 6 p.m. at Heiges Field House.
