SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup to regional rival Shepherd Wednesday under the lights at David See Field, 4-0.
Shippensburg (2-5-3, 1-5-3 PSAC East) held Shepherd (5-1-5, 4-1-5) scoreless for the first 76 minutes of the match before conceding four goals in the final 13 minutes.
Shepherd maintained a 71%-to-29% possession advantage, which led to a 13-to-0 Ram advantage in shots on goal.
Shippensburg goalkeeper
Kirstin Brown totaled nine saves, tied for her second most in a game this season. Brown's effort, and the efforts of the Raider backline held the visitors in check for most of the contest. The Rams' pressure also opened up a handful of promising counterattacks, but none resulted in a Shippensburg shot on goal.
Shepherd thought they finally broke through the Raider defense in the 76th minute, only to have the goal disallowed because of a handball. The call appeared to light a fire under the visitors, with Shepherd forward Merritt Delk firing home a rocket for the go-ahead goal less than a minute later.
Lydia Gable, Reagan Ackermann and Anaya Lozano followed with goals in the final 13 minutes for the Rams.
Brown's season-high save total (10) came in the Raiders' 1-1 draw at Shepherd Sept. 10.
The Raiders return to action Saturday at No. 24 West Chester. Kick-off against the Golden Rams is scheduled for 12 p.m.
