SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team scored twice in a 2:33 span late in the second quarter Tuesday to establish a lead it would not relinquish, shutting out No. 7 Millersville, 3-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (12-1, 4-1 PSAC) posted its eighth shutout of the season and held Millersville (7-6, 3-2) to just one shot on goal. The Raiders earned 11 of their 13 penalty corners in the first half and only allowed three corners overall to the Marauders.

SU had 16 shots on goal but was held scoreless until 2:42 remained in the first half. On a penalty corner opportunity, Millersville goalkeeper Sarah Crysler denied two Raiders at close range before Elaina Fragassi corralled a rebound out of the air at the left post and swung the ball into the cage after a bounce.

On another penalty corner that was earned with just 20 seconds left in the half, Hannah White fired home a shot from the top of the circle off a setup from McKenna Boyle that put SU ahead 2-0 heading into halftime.

Four minutes into the third quarter, Fragassi added her second of the match and sixth of the season by sending a shot five-hole on Crysler. It was the result of a long-range connection that began in the Raider defensive third when Savannah Silvestre fired a long pass to Lilly Cantabene – whose nifty work in the midfield set up Fragassi in the circle.

Crysler was stout in goal for the Marauders, finishing with 12 saves (nine in the first half). Jillian Kringe made a defensive save early on.

Emma Albee made one save in recording her eighth shutout of the season for the Raiders.

Shippensburg returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday when it travels to take on No. 6 Bloomsburg at Steph Pettit Stadium.
