SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team dropped its Saturday afternoon home match to non-conference opponent Saint Michael's, 2-0, at David See Field.
 
Shippensburg (0-2) held the advantage in corners over Saint Michael's, 10-2, but could not convert any of them into goals. Saint Michael's (1-0) converted its first corner of the match into the second goal.
 
The Purple Knights first goal came in the 21st minute, coming from Bella DelVecchio's right foot into the bottom left and assisted by Nathalie Larsson. Sophomore Kirstin Brown got a piece of the shot, but the momentum of the ball carried it into the net.
 
Saint Michael's insurance marker came in the 58th minute. The Raiders attempted to clear the corner out of the box, but the ball went right to Faith Kosiba, who took advantage of the spacing to place the ball into the bottom left of the goal to go up by two.
 
The Purple Knights defense stifled the Raiders offense for the duration of the game. Brown finished with three saves, and shots on goal were even at 5-5.
 
Shippensburg begins conference play at 2 p.m. Wednesday at No. 11 West Chester.
