The Shippensburg University women's soccer team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play with a 3-0 loss at No. 19 West Chester on a sunny and warm afternoon at Rockwell Field.
Shippensburg (0-3-0, 0-1-0 PSAC East) yielded two goals in a four-minute span of the first half that proved to be insurmountable. At halftime, SU held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Raiders were held without a shot and had no corners in the second half.
West Chester (2-0-0, 1-0-0) got a goal and an assist from Kaitlynn Haughey and two assists from Faith Matter. Jackie Graham and Alyson Cutter added tallies. Grace Keen made four saves in the shutout.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kirstin Brown recorded three saves in 75 minutes of action before having to leave the game. Freshman
Hannah Cline made her collegiate debut and totaled two saves over the final 15 minutes.
Shippensburg returns to action in one week's time, hosting Shepherd at 3 p.m. Wednesday at David See Field.
