The Shippensburg University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash held in Tioga County.
Shippensburg (1-5-1, 1-3-1 PSAC East) recovered from an inauspicious start, as Mansfield (0-4-3, 0-4-1) scored a goal less than 90 seconds into the match. The Raiders weathered an early Mountaineer attack and finished the match with a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-4 advantage in corners.
Senior
Suzy Dietrich, playing in her 42nd career match Saturday, scored her first collegiate goal just six minutes after the early MU strike. Senior
Olivia Stephen sent a long-range free kick off the right post, and Dietrich directed the rebound into the net to even the score.
Six minutes into the second half, Stephen scored the game-winner with a finish in the center of the box. Her team-leading third goal of the season was the result of a brilliant left-footed cross by junior
Ryleigh Cook – her third career assist.
Sophomore
Kirstin Brown was credited with four saves, while Mountaineer keeper Serenity Esterline made seven saves.
Shippensburg is back home Wednesday, hosting Lock Haven at 3 p.m. at David See Field.
