SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team hung tight with No. 11 East Stroudsburg on Saturday in its Senior Day home finale, trailing the Warriors by just two goals at halftime, but ultimately dropped an 11-3 decision in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from soggy Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (4-12, 2-9 PSAC East) trailed just 4-2 at halftime but could not solve the Warrior defense, as the Raiders were held scoreless from the 9:17 mark of the second quarter until the final minute of the game.

Junior Sara Vosburg got the Raiders on the board at the 8:46 mark of the first quarter, making her the 17th player in school history to score 100 career goals. It tied the match at 1-1, and the score stayed that way through the end of the first quarter.

East Stroudsburg (10-5, 6-4) got nine more goals from Emily Mitarotonda, bringing her impressive season total to 76. In two games against the Raiders this season, Mitarotonda found the back of the net 19 times. Mitarotonda added six groundballs, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Two of SU's four seniors – Payton Margerum and Emily Fenwick – added goals in the contest. Defenders Carly Switala and Leah Hueber joined them in the starting lineup for Senior Day.

Both goaltenders delivered excellent performances despite the miserable weather. Junior Kayla Vosburg was credited with 16 saves against the Warriors, while ESU's Abby Simonetti stopped 13 of the 16 shots on goal sent her way.

Junior Annie Rathgeb had four of SU's 10 caused turnovers in the contest. Rathgeb also had five groundballs. Fenwick and sophomore Grace DeMarzio combined for seven groundballs.

The Raiders finished with a 10-7 edge in draw controls. Sara Vosburg and sophomore Ali Pioli each had a team-high three draw controls. Pioli assisted Margerum's late goal.

Shippensburg concludes its season at 2 p.m. next Saturday at Bloomsburg.
