RECAP: Lacrosse ends season with overtime heartbreaker at Bloomsburg, 11-10

SU comes up just short; seven different players contributed at least one goal

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team ended up on the short end of a double-overtime thriller at Bloomsburg in its 2024 season finale, dropping an 11-10 decision to the host Huskies in a topsy-turvy Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division thrilled at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Shippensburg (4-13, 2-10 PSAC East) and Bloomsburg (10-7, 5-7 PSAC East) needed 7:08 of extra time to decide a victor on a rainy day in Columbia County. SU led 6-4 at halftime before BU outscored the Raiders 5-0 in the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead entering the final 15 minutes.

Undaunted, Shippensburg outscored the Huskies 4-1 in the fourth quarter, with junior Sara Vosburg scoring her second goal of the game with 2:26 left to tie it and send the match into overtime.

With the game still in the balance, junior goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg made two saves in the first overtime, including one on a free-position shot with nine seconds left to force another extra session.

Vosburg finished with 12 saves in Saturday's match and ends the season with 188 saves – a new career high and the most by a Raider in two decades (Kelby Vanous, 205 in 2004). She will enter her senior season fourth in school history with 473 career saves.

Twin sister Sara Vosburg finished with two goals, an assist, five draw controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Sara Vosburg surpassed the century mark for career draw controls in the contest and completed the year with a team-high 48 goals.

Sophomore Ali Pioli delivered two goals (scoring on both of her shots on goal), two assists, four draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover. Pioli finished the season with a team-high 72 draw controls.

First-year Olivia Glinski scored twice, while senior Payton Margerum, sophomore Keegan Dings, senior Emily Fenwick and junior Jamie Carvin added tallies. Fenwick contributed three assists – doubling her season total.

Sophomore Grace DeMarzio capped off an excellent season with a team-high seven draw controls and a team-high three caused turnovers to go along with four groundballs. DeMarzio finished the season with a team-high 42 groundballs while tying Sara Vosburg with a team-high 26 caused turnovers.
