The Shippensburg University lacrosse team notched its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory of the season with a comprehensive 15-10 triumph over Millersville Saturday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium, 15-10.
The Raiders (3-11, 1-8 PSAC East) won the draw control battle (16-to-13) over the Marauders (4-9, 2-7) and committed their fewest number of turnovers of the season (18) en route to victory.
Â
Individually, SU received career-best goal tallies from a pair of veteran attackers. Junior
Sara Vosburg paced the Raiders with a career-high tying six goals, while junior
Jamie Carvin's four goals topped her previous high of three.
Â
Sophomore
Ali Pioli added a goal, three assists and a team-high seven draw controls.
Â
Vosburg netted the Raiders' first two goals, erasing an early 2-0 Millersville advantage. Senior
Payton Margerum followed with a goal to give the Raiders their first lead, 3-2.
Â
A close, back-and-forth battle in the first 30 minutes resulted in an even 8-8 score at the half. The Raiders then began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Marauders 5-0 in the frame.
Â
The run included the first collegiate goal from first-year
Brynn Hauck, who converted following a surging run from the midfield. As well as a sizzling shot from senior
Emily Fenwick of a feed from Vosburg and a free position goal from first-year
Ava Collins.
Â
Vosburg's fourth tally told the story of the defensive pressure and hustle that the Raiders put forth for the full 60 minutes – as Vosburg intercepted a pass attempt from the VILLE goalie and scored an easy breakaway goal. Vosburg's six goals Saturday now give her 42 on the season.
Â
Defensively, sophomore
Grace DeMarzio posted four groundballs and four draw controls. Junior
Annie Rathgeb recorded three caused turnovers.
Â
Junior goalie
Kayla Vosburg finished with 13 saves.
Â
The victory marked the Raiders' first conference road win since April 23, 2022 (14-7 at Kutztown).
Â
The Raiders return to action Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Shepherd.
