SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team could not slow down No. 2 West Chester in the second quarter on Wednesday, dropping a 19-8 decision to the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at sunny and warm Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-11, 0-8 PSAC East) scored the first goal of the match and was tied 3-3 with West Chester (12-0, 7-0) with a minute remaining in the opening quarter. Then, the Golden Rams scored eight straight to take an 11-3 lead at halftime.

First-year defender Brynn Hauck had an excellent game along the back lines. In addition to three groundballs and a caused turnover, Hauck won possession for the Raiders on multiple occasions hustling for loose balls off missed shots and also slowed the Golden Ram offense on numerous odd-man rushes.

Junior Kayla Vosburg  made 13 saves in between the pipes, her highest total in the last five contests. Fellow junior Annie Rathgeb also recorded three groundballs.

Sophomore Ali Pioli had another strong game, totaling a goal, two assists, four groundballs, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Junior Jamie Carvin led the offense with a hat trick – her fourth of the season – and an assist. Junior Sara Vosburg had two goals, an assist, and a team-high four draw controls. Senior Emily Fenwick scored twice, and senior Payton Margerum had an assist.

West Chester finished the match with a 20-10 edge in draw controls and won 12 of the 14 draws contested in the first half. The Golden Rams were once again strong with possession, only committing 11 total turnovers (just four in the first half) while the Raiders committed 24 turnovers. WCU also finished with a 32-11 advantage in shots on goal.

All-American Hannah Stanislawczyk paced the visitors with five goals – bringing her season total to 50 – in addition to four groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
