SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team held No. 23 Bloomsburg scoreless for the opening 12 minutes of play on Wednesday but could not establish much offense itself, as the visiting Huskies worked their way to a 15-8 victory over the Raiders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from sunny and balmy Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-9, 0-6 PSAC East) was held to just three goals in the first half, as Bloomsburg (8-2, 4-2) scored five goals in a seven-minute span of the end of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead. SU cut its deficit to 5-3 later in the frame, but BU countered with two goals to lead 7-3 at the intermission. The Raiders were unable to get any closer.

The Raiders once again received strong play from sophomore midfielders Grace DeMarzio and Ali Pioli. The duo combined for seven caused turnovers, eight groundballs and eight draw controls.

Junior Sara Vosburg posted a hat trick for the fifth consecutive game and the eighth time this season. Her goal at the 10:44 mark of the first quarter was the only tally by either team in the first 12 minutes. Vosburg added three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Five other Raiders found the back of the net. Junior Jamie Carvin and senior Payton Margerum each had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Keegan Dings, first-year Olivia Glinski and junior Jill Hopkins added tallies. First-year Juliana Primrose recorded her first collegiate point with an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg had four groundballs and made four saves.

Bloomsburg got six goals and seven draw controls from Madison Coyle along with hat tricks from Amanda Stoll and Marykate Sitko. Goalkeeper Lauren Foley was once again on point, making nine saves. The Husky defense also forced nine failed clears from the Raiders.

Shippensburg will conduct its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game in remembrance of Julia Wise at noon Saturday when it hosts No. 15 Kutztown at Robb Sports Complex.
