The Shippensburg University lacrosse team completed its long stretch of six-straight road games to start the season with a loss Saturday to No. 2 West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on a damp, windy afternoon at WCU's Vonnie Gros Field, 22-7.
Shippensburg (1-5, 0-2 PSAC East) tallied seven goals from six different players. Junior
Sara Vosburg led the way with two goals and one assist. First-year
Olivia Glinski added a goal and three helpers.
West Chester's (6-0, 1-0) balanced scoring attack saw four different players net four goals: Hannah Stanislawczyk, Jess Harrison, Madeline Edinger and Sydney Wasdick. Julia Littlewood scored twice and added eight assists.
Vosburg and Glinski combined on a beautiful give-and-go for the Raiders' first goal. Vosburg was credited with the tally at the 9:07 mark of the first to make it 3-1 West Chester.
Junior
Jamie Carvin scored a free-position goal later in the first to bring the visitors within four at 6-2, but two Golden Ram goals within a 30-second span allowed the hosts to regain a six-goal cushion.
That stretch spurred a greater 9-0 Golden Ram run late in the first half that put the game out of reach.
Sophomore
Shannon Wood, senior
Emily Fenwick and first-year
Ava Collins rounded out the Raider goal-scorers.
Sophomore
Grace DeMarzio registered two groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Raiders defensively.
Sophomore
Ali Pioli totaled a team-best five draw controls.
Shippensburg will next host Shepherd for their long-awaited home opener Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
