RECAP: Lacrosse drops road contest at No. 25 Seton Hill, 19-8

Sara Vosburg tallies hat trick for Raiders

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team suffered a road setback against the Seton Hill Griffins Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg, 19-8.

Shippensburg (1-3) was able to trade goals with the Griffins early on and played the opposition even in the final 15 minutes, getting a hat trick from junior Sara Vosburg and a three-point effort (2 goals, 1 assist) from sophomore Keegan Dings.

Seton Hill (1-3) eventually pulled away thanks to a 15-to-2 first half advantage in draw controls. Seton Hill's Grace Agnello led the Griffin attack with six goals, while Skylar Orlowski totaled eight points (4 goals, 4 assists).

Vosburg scored twice inside the first six minutes, each time cutting the Raider deficit to a single goal. But the Griffins' draw control advantage allowed them to go on a back-breaking 6-0 run to end the opening frame.

A goal from junior Jamie Carvin with 5:27 remaining in the opening half – her first of the season – halted a run of nine straight Griffin goals.

Despite the growing deficit, the Raiders' effort never wavered. Dings added a free-position goal in the final minute of the third quarter and beat the Seton Hill keeper once more in the opening minute of the fourth.

Dings' back-to-back scores began what was a 5-1 run for the Raiders.

Vosburg, junior Jill Hopkins and first-year Olivia Glinski were apart of three unanswered Shippensburg goals midway through the final quarter. The Raiders battled the Griffins to an even 4-4 score in the frame.

Vosburg also recorded four caused turnovers and three groundballs Wednesday. She now leads the Raiders with 12 goals on the season. Sophomore Ali Pioli led the Raiders with five draw controls.

Defensively, sophomore Grace DeMarzio totaled four groundballs, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.

The Raiders open their PSAC East schedule by visiting the Kutztown Golden Bears Wednesday at 3 p.m.
