RECAP: Women’s Soccer storms back late to earn draw with East Stroudsburg, 2-2

Werynski and DiCandilo both find the net in the final ten minutes

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team mounted a late comeback to post a draw with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent East Stroudsburg, 2-2, on Saturday afternoon at Gregory-Douds Field.

Trailing 2-0 in the 84th minute, Shippensburg (5-7-4, 5-5-4 PSAC East) provided another memorable final ten minutes for an exciting finish. Junior Kaitlyn DiCandilo converted a free kick to cut into the ESU (6-3-7, 4-3-7 PSAC East) lead with a shot that was sent into the high right area of the net and past keeper Emmy Clarkson.

Not two minutes later, SU had another prime opportunity to score. A cross by a Raider player found its way to sophomore Ashley Hughes, who chose to make the extra pass to freshman Lannah Werynski. The extra pass paid off, with Clarkson out of the goal, Werynski was able to make the easy tap in to tie the score at 2-2.

East Stroudsburg had a chance to score the go-ahead goal in the final 30 seconds, but a shot wide right ended the match in a tie.

For DiCandilo, Saturday marked her first goal this season, and her second career goal. Werynski also grabbed her second collegiate goal, with her first coming against ESU earlier this season. Sophomore Kirstin Brown tallied five saves in the match.

With another tie, Shippensburg stays in the hunt for a playoff bid in the PSAC Eastern Division. With two games remaining, the Raiders stay tied with the Warriors in the standings, and within two points of Bloomsburg and Millersville.

The Raiders will hit the road at 1 p.m. Tuesday to face Shepherd in the team's road finale.
