The Shippensburg University women's soccer team dropped its road finale to Shepherd, 2-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match Wednesday afternoon at the Shepherd Soccer Complex.
The Raiders (5-8-4, 5-6-4 PSAC East) could only muster three shots on the day, but made the most out of the opportunities, with all three shots being on goal.
The Rams (12-1-2, 12-1-4 PSAC East) opened scoring in the 41st minute, using a Raider foul to set up a free kick. Shepherd's Annabelle Wunderlich passed the ball ahead to Taylor Schuck, who ripped the ball into the low center of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Shepherd, who had already sewn up the East No. 1 seed prior to Wednesday's game, added to their lead with a goal in the 78th minute. After a shot was turned aside from Raider freshman
Ashton Gonzalez, the Rams provided a quick counterattack, starting with a unsuccessful shot attempt by Josie Beezel. Less than a minute later, Beezel would find open teammate Sarah Perternel for the final goal of the match.
Redshirt-Freshman
Kirstin Brown recorded 11 saves on the match, her fourth match recording double digit saves on the season. Her 92 saves on the season are the most by an individual Raider since 2021, when
Kendra Barlow had 107 saves on the year.
The Raiders will return home to face Bloomsburg for their season finale Saturday at 2 p.m.
