SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome a second-quarter slowdown on Saturday, as the Raiders dropped a 63-42 decision to Holy Family in a non-conference matinee at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-2) led 13-11 after the first quarter and was tied with Holy Family (4-0) at 18-18 with three minutes left in the opening half. The Tigers scored the final eight points to lead by that amount at halftime and SU was not able to get any closer in the second half.
Overall, the Tigers held the Raiders scoreless for the final 5:54 of the first half and to just five total points in the second quarter. Holy Family led 38-22 with just more than five minutes remaining in the third quarter to constitute a 20-4 overall run that spanned the midway point of the game.

Alexis Buie was SU's leading scorer despite navigating through foul trouble. Buie finished with a career-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line to mark another career high. She also added four rebounds.

Mia Johnson scored 11 points and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior
Abbie Miller contributed eight points, five rebounds, two assists and a team-high three steals.
The Tigers out-rebounded the Raiders 48-25 and scored 16 second-chance points. Taylor Hinkle had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds while Carolyn Prevost and Kara Meredith each scored 11 points.
Holy Family shot 45.6 percent from the field and held SU to just 25.9 percent shooting. It was the second win in the last three days for the Tigers, who defeated West Chester by 16 points on Thursday.
Shippensburg is back in action at 3 p.m. Friday at IUP. It will be the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both teams.
