Four Raiders contribute double-digit kills; Gardner records another double-double

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team returned home Friday night and posted a 3-1 victory over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 25-13.
 
Shippensburg (13-11, 7-2 PSAC East) achieved the victory despite committing 27 attack errors and 12 service errors while also allowing eight aces to Kutztown (1-22, 0-9). SU did serve nine aces of its own, and the two teams combined for 19 blocks (10 for the Raiders, nine for the Golden Bears).
 
Four Raiders finished with 10 or more kills. Junior Kayla Johnson served a team-high 14 kills and hit .278, while senior Emily Gardner had a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs.
 
Sophomore Kylie Snyder earned a start and had 10 kills and a team-high six block assists while hitting .280 from the floor. Fellow sophomore Natalya Montague had 10 kills, four block assists and hit .333.
 
Junior Isabelle Bombas finished with seven kills and five block assists, while junior Berkley Simmons had a team-high three aces.
 
Junior Kearstin Davis had 41 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore libero Shay Kolivoski had a team-high 18 digs to go along with four assists and even a kill – her second of the season – after a smack from the back row.  
 
The visitors got 10 kills and three block assists from Sarah Hess while Christina Lockett had seven kills and four block assists.
 
Shippensburg hosts East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heiges Field House.
