The Shippensburg University men's soccer team's staunch defensive effort was spoiled late in a close nonconference loss to Seton Hill at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg, 2-1.
Shippensburg (2-7) got a first-half goal from freshman
Nate Herb and were level with the hosts until a 66th minute strike from Seton Hill's Esteban Moreira.
The Raiders weathered a Seton Hill (7-1-2) onslaught that included 21 total shots and seven shots on target. Shippensburg sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Krumenacker was credited with five saves.
The Griffins got on the board first thanks to a goal from Tom Frank in the 9th minute.
A 13th minute free kick allowed the Raiders to level the score. Senior
Victor Vottero hammered the initial attempt off the woodwork, and the rebound caromed to the feet of Herb in the box, resulting in the SU defender's first collegiate goal.
The score remained knotted until midway through the second half, when Moreira headed home one of the Griffin's eight total corner kicks at the far post for the game-winner.
Next up, the Raiders return home for a PSAC crossover date against California Saturday. Kickoff from David See Field is slated for 4 p.m.
