SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team was kept off the scoreboard Saturday in a non-conference crossover with California (Pa.), as the Raiders fell 1-0 to the visiting Vulcans at David See Field.
Shippensburg (2-8-0) and California (3-4-4) combined for just one shot on goal in the first half before exchanging a fair share of scoring chances in the second half.
The Vulcans found the back of the net in the 54th minute for the match's lone strike. After sophomore
Ryan Krumenacker made a save at close range on Arik Landau, the rebound went to the right side of the box. Cullin Woytovich sent a cross over to the left post that was finished by Jake Gretz for the decisive goal.
SU answered with a steady counterattack after the tally and got a pair of shots on goal within the next three minutes. Vulcan keeper Kiernan Webb and Krumenacker each made three saves in the match; with Webb's stop of an early first-half free kick from sophomore
Luca Heusser being a key denial.
Shots on goal ended up 5-3 in Cal's favor, while corner kicks were 4-3 to the Vulcans' advantage.
Shippensburg is back in action at 5 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Millersville at David See Field.
