The Shippensburg University men's indoor track & field team delivered a bevy of solid performances Saturday at the Bison Open & Multi hosted by Bucknell University inside Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Chase Hensinger highlighted the action on the track by winning the 800 meters in 1:54.98 – coming within a second of an NCAA provisional qualifier. The performance was one of 12 on the day for the Raiders that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard.
Kenny Rhyne had an impressive effort in the high jump for the second straight week. Rhyne won Saturday's competition with a top clearance of 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches (2.00 meters) – matching his season-best effort from last week's Gulden Invitational at Bucknell.
Ryan Murphy completed the heptathlon with a fourth-place score of 4,279 points – surpassing his PR score from last year's conference meet by 159 points. On Saturday, Murphy completed the 60-meter hurdles in 9.02 seconds, cleared 10 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault for a new indoor best, and completed the 1,000 meters in 3:09.12.
Mo Whittle took second in the long jump on a top mark of 23 feet, 0 ¾ inches, while multi-man
Mason Boyd was fifth in 22 feet, 3 ¾ inches.
Darien Ressler finished fifth in the triple jump with a new indoor personal best. His first-attempt jump of 44 feet, 10 ¼ inches marks a new season best by a foot and a new PR by 1.5 inches.
Donovan Kitchen was the Raider pacesetter in the shot with a put of 47 feet, 1 inches.
Gian Greggo competed solely in the weight throw Saturday and led the Raiders with a seventh-place throw of 48 feet.
Back on the track,
Lavar Jackson, Whittle and
Eric Kirk qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash. Jackson ran 7.01 seconds in prelims and finished sixth in the finals with a time of 7.05 seconds. Whittle ran 7.02 seconds in prelims and was seventh in the finals with a time of 7.08 seconds. Kirk ran 7.06 seconds in prelims but did not run in the finals.
Jak Kearney returned to action and placed second in the 400 meters, running 50.05 seconds. Multi-man
Robert Lissner finished third in the seldom-run 500 meters, posting a time of 1:07.87.
Drew Dailey and
Brennan Wellock comfortably picked up league qualifiers in the mile; Dailey was fifth in 4:21.28 and Wellock was seventh in 4:22.46.
Shippensburg will split its squad next Saturday between Penn State (Sykes & Sabock Challenge) and Alvernia (Plex Shootout).
