The Shippensburg University men's indoor track & field team delivered a strong start to the 2024 Bison Open & Multi on Friday night in competition hosted by Bucknell University inside Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Lavar Jackson delivered another excellent performance in the 200 meters, posting the fastest time of the competition after crossing the finish line in 21.71 seconds. The NCAA provisional qualifier is just .14 seconds off his school record set in December.
Eric Kirk ran third in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.39 seconds. The time is just .25 seconds off his season best.
Jeovaughni Daniel finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.41 seconds for a strong improvement from his prelim time of 8.70 seconds.
Bernard Bell III was one place behind Daniel in the finals, finishing fifth in 8.44 seconds. Bell III ran 8.47 seconds in prelims.
Ryan Murphy, who was unable to compete in the season-opening multi in December, completed the first four events of this weekend's multi competition and sits in third place with 2,547 points. Murphy ran the fastest 60-meter dash of the competition, a PR of 7.25 seconds, while clearing 6 feet, 0 ½ inches in the high jump (just a quarter of an inch off his indoor best). He set a new indoor PR in the shot, delivering a top put of 31 feet, 6 inches, and came close to his indoor best in the long jump on a top mark of 20 feet, 3 ¾ inches.
Robert Lissner came within two inches of his PR in the pole vault, finishing third Friday night with a top clearance of 14 feet, 9 inches (4.50 meters).
SU had a distance medley relay that finished seventh in 10:32.06.
Chase Hensinger ran the opening 1,200-meter leg, followed by 400 meters from
Robbie Hrabosky II, 800 meters by
Drew Dailey, and a 1,600-meter anchor leg by
Brennan Wellock.
Competition resumes tomorrow morning at Bucknell.
