SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team fell to Mansfield in overtime on Wednesday night, 98-87, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (5-10, 2-8 PSAC East) took a 17-point lead into halftime before Mansfield (6-9, 4-6) overcame its deficit in the second half by shooting 10-of-14 (71 percent) from three-point range to force overtime. Mansfield made 14-of-16 from the free-throw line in overtime to take control and finished with a total of 74 points after halftime.

Redshirt-freshman Markus Frank led the Raiders with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Redshirt-junior Ty Crespo had 12 points; sophomore Timmy Conner scored 11 points, and junior Kyle Whippen scored 10 for the Raiders. Whippen's 14 rebounds were good for his second double-double of the season.

A 26-7 run by the Raiders over the final 8:19 of the first half gave SU a big 41-24 halftime lead. There were nine lead changes in the first 12 minutes of play before the Raiders controlled the remainder of the half. An and-one conversion by Frank began the momentum and gave the Raiders an 18-17 advantage.

A 14-1 run gave the Raiders a 34-20 lead with just two minutes remaining in the half. The Mounties knocked down some free throws late in the half but did not make a field goal in the final 7:28 of the opening 20 minutes.

Mansfield opened the second half with the first eight points to cut the Raiders' lead back to single digits. SU immediately responded with the next eight points to restore its 17-point lead with 15:44 remaining.

The Mounties chipped away at the Raiders' lead over the final 15 minutes, eventually tying the game with 1:10 remaining. Down nine, a 7-0 run by Mansfield made it a two-point game. The Raiders held a small one-possession lead for nearly the final five minutes until a big three by Manir Waller tied the score at 80-80. Both teams made free throws in the final 37 seconds to send the game into overtime at 82-82.

Mansfield controlled the overtime period, holding the Raiders to just two baskets. The Mounties got to the line early in the overtime period, converting 6-of-6 free throws in the first 1:30 of play. A basket and another free throw at the 2:30 mark gave the Mounties a quick 91-83 advantage, and the Mounties closed out the win.

Shippensburg shot 46.5 percent from the field and reached its highest point total so far this season. Mansfield shot 41.7 percent from both the field and behind the three-point line. The Mounties scored 27 points off of turnovers and scored 14 second chance points.
