Hannah Marsteller broke the school record for career doubles and helped the Shippensburg University softball team to split with West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup. The Raiders fell 6-4, in Game 1, before taking the victory in Game 2, 6-4, on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (27-16, 19-11 PSAC East) had the lead in Game 1, but was unable to keep the lead, as West Chester (36-15, 24-6) capitalized to take the victory. The Raiders got revenge in Game 2 and held the Golden Rams to settle for a split.

Marsteller led the Raiders going 5-for-7 including her two doubles, bringing her career total to 58, surpassing Hall of Fame Sarah Costa '05 who totaled 57 career doubles. She also added a triple, five RBIs and a slugging percentage of 1.286.

Junior
Taylor Myers had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, while fellow junior
Morgan Lindsay had two doubles, three RBIs and drew a walk.

Freshman
Emilee Sullivan had two hits, including a double in Game 2. Junior
Alyssa Nehlen added two hits.

Redshirt-senior
Maddie Uschock had her third win of the season after winning Game 2. Uschock threw 4.0 innings and had four strikeouts. Junior
Maelynn Leber was the starting pitcher in Game 1 and got the save in Game 2. Leber threw 4.0 total innings.

Shippensburg will travel to Kutztown on Saturday to conclude its regular season, with the first pitch at 1 p.m.

Game 1: West Chester 6, Shippensburg 4

Shippensburg started off hot in the first inning with Myers drawing a walk and a triple by Marsteller to center field to take a 1-0 lead. Lindsay brought Marsteller home after an RBI-groundoutI. West Chester came back in the top of the second with an RBI double to left center to reduce the deficit to one run.

The Golden Rams tied the game with an RBI single and a Raider error in the top of the third inning. The Raiders answered back in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single by Marsteller to right center and an RBI single by Nehlen to take a 4-2 lead.

WCU crept back with a sacrifice fly RBI by Grace Aguilar to bring Hailey Melvin home who tripled in the top of the fifth inning. SU got in trouble in the top of the sixth with a two-out rally by West Chester. The Golden Rams tied the game after a single by Madison Melvin to shortstop and Kate Rittenbaugh's RBI single to left center gave West Chester the 5-4 lead.

WCU added another run in the top of the seventh with a solo home run by Meg Wolfe. SU was unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh.

Leber threw 2.2 innings and allowed three hits, while freshman
Kaira Zamadics threw 3.0 innings and had five strikeouts.
Hanna Phillips struck out back-to-back batters to help the Raiders escape a jam in the seventh inning. Â

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, West Chester 4

West Chester put a run on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single by Hailey Melvin. Shippensburg answered right back in the bottom of the first with a two-run double by Marsteller to left center. Lindsay then hit an RBI double to right center that brought Marsteller home for a 3-1 lead.

The Raiders added another run in the bottom of the third as Marsteller singled to right to get on base and Lindsay brought Marsteller home with another double to center field. SU added another run in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Myers down the left-field line to bring Sullivan home, who had singled to left field.

In the top of the fifth, West Chester scored one run with a bases-loaded walk. The Raiders were able to get out of the jam with a double play by Sullivan. In the next inning, the Golden Rams looked to threaten again with a two-out rally, as Emma Zoldi hit an RBI single up the middle to close the deficit to 5-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Marsteller ripped a double to right center for her 58th career double and bring home freshman Caitlin Martell, who also doubled to right center.

In the top of the seventh, West Chester had back-to-back singles with no outs to have two runners on base. With one out, Grace Aguilar singled to load the bases. Wolfe brought a run home with a groundout, followed by a Golden Rams walk to re-load the bases. SU was able to get out of the jam with a groundout to Marsteller for the third out.

SU totaled six doubles in Game 2, the most it has had since March 23, 2021 against Bloomsburg.
