The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on Wednesday night as the Raiders dropped a 74-47 decision at Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Keystone Arena.
Shippensburg (18-5, 13-4 PSAC) had one lone player in double figures. Senior
Ariel Jones led the team with 13 points, and added six rebounds, and five steals. Jones was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore
Abbie Miller added nine points, and had a team-high eight rebounds. Fellow sophomore,
Taja Colbert had eight points, and was perfect from the line (4-of-4).
SU trailed by four points after 10 minutes of play but was outlasted by Kutztown (11-12, 9-8) in the second quarter, as they shot 64.29 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc. At halftime, the Raiders trailed by 18 points. The two teams combined for 23 fouls, including nine players between the two teams with at least two or more fouls.
The Raiders had its best quarter in the third as they scored 17 points, compared to the Golden Bears 18 points. SU tied for its lowest field-goal percentage of the season, 23.6 percent (13-of-55).
Kutztown was led by Naia Pulliam, with a career-high 31 points and added a team-high seven rebounds. Pulliam went 5-of-7 from the three and had 14 points by the first half. Off the bench, Abbey Hearn scored 15 points.
Shippensburg will travel to Mansfield on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
