MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak after taking down Mansfield, 91-53, Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Marion Decker Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (19-5, 14-4 PSAC) dominated inside, scoring 62 of its 91 points from the paint. SU held a 10-point lead after the first quarter.
The Raiders kept the momentum going in the second quarter, extending the lead to 23 points heading into halftime. Sophomore
Taja Colbert went 7-of-8 in the first half, scoring 16 of her career-high 20 points by halftime.
Colbert led the Raiders with 20 points, shooting 9-of-11 from the field. She also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Shippensburg shot a season-high 54.8 percent from the field, making it the fifth time this season the team shot 50 percent or higher. SU also dished out 23 assists, the most as a team all season.
Graduate
Lauren Pettis posted her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Senior
Ariel Jones also added 18 points, grabbed six boards and dished out six assists.
Sophomore
Abbie Miller added nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Freshman
Ellie Goodwin scored a career-high eight points, going a perfect 4-4 from the field.
Graduate
Mya Woodyard contributed five points, five assists and three steals. Graduate
Erin Gibbons and junior
Treasure George each added four points. Gibbons also dished out five assists and George added four rebounds and two assists.
Mansfield (2-21,1-18) was led by Jasmine Hilton, who scored her 1,000th point this afternoon. She posted 24 points and seven rebounds.
Shippensburg returns to Heiges Field house Wednesday at 6 p.m. to take on Millersville.
