SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team used fourth-quarter grit on Wednesday to outlast Millersville, 64-57, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (20-5, 15-4) weathered an early 5-0 run from Millersville (15-10, 10-9) to start the game with a layup from sophomore Abbie Miller to get on the board. The entire first half was back and forth, with the Marauders securing a one-point lead heading into halftime.

Senior Ariel Jones (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) scored 11 points in the first 11 minutes of the game but was sidelined the rest of the game after an injury. Undaunted, Shippensburg quickly gained the lead starting the third quarter and never trailed again to secure the victory.

Miller led all scorers and tied her career high with 13 points. She also added four rebounds and two assists.

Junior Treasure George posted her fourth double-double this season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the team in assists with five.

Graduate Lauren Pettis was just two points shy of a double-double, grabbing 10 boards and notching eight points. She added two assists.

Graduate Erin Gibbons and sophomore Taja Colbert each added six points. Gibbons added four assists and two steals. Colbert dished out two assists.

Freshman Makayla Foddrell went a perfect 2-2 from the field to add five points. Graduate Mya Woodyard had all four of her points come from the free-throw line, going a perfect 4-4.

The Raiders outrebounded the Marauders, 39-34. Shippensburg also held Millersville to just five second-chance points. PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week, Taylor Langan, was held to only nine points, and six rebounds.

With the win, Shippensburg achieved its first 20-win season since going 21-9 in 2019-20. The victory also secured the Raiders a first-round bye in the PSAC Tournament and the right to host a PSAC quarterfinal on Wednesday, March 1.

SU is back at Heiges Field House this Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on Bloomsburg in its Alumni/Pink game.
