SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort on Saturday afternoon to take down Bloomsburg, 75-62, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Heiges Field House.
Graduate
Lauren Pettis reached the 1,000-point milestone at the 4:01 mark in the first quarter with a put-back layup. She became the 25th player in school history to achieve the milestone.
Shippensburg (21-5, 16-4 PSAC) trailed through the first quarter but quickly came back to gain an eight-point lead heading into halftime. Senior
Ariel Jones (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) scored 13 of her 21 first-half points in the second quarter, three more than Bloomsburg (9-15, 7-13) scored as a team in the same quarter.
The Raiders continued their momentum in the second half and maintained a double-digit lead the entire fourth quarter.
Jones had a team-high 38 points and finished the game with her third double-double of the season, grabbing 11 boards. Pettis posted her 12th double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and recording 10 boards.
Sophomore
Abbie Miller finished the game with eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior
Treasure George added six points and four rebounds.
Off the bench, graduate
Mya Woodyard contributed three points and three rebounds. Junior

Ellie Goodwin each added two points.
The Raiders scored 46 of their points from the paint to the Huskies 28. Both teams grabbed 38 boards.
SU only committed two turnovers in the second half and ended the game with only eight total turnovers.
Jones' 38 points moved her past West Texas A&M's Emily Brister (2,645) and Valdosta State's Shannon Williams (2,636) into sixth place on the all-time NCAA Division II career scoring list.
Bloomsburg was led by Emma Gochnauer, who scored 11 points and dished out three assists.
Before the game, Shippensburg held its annual Alumni Game. It was also "Pink Day," with the team raising funds to support Kayla Alexander in her fight against Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
Shippensburg heads to Shepherd next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. as it nears the end of the regular season.
