RECAP: Men’s Swimming finishes sixth at 2023 PSAC Championships

SU gets seven individual scoring efforts on the final day of competition

The Shippensburg University men's swimming team finished in sixth place at the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships, wrapping up the final day of competition at the Graham Aquatic Center with five evening finalists and seven overall individual point scorers.
 
The Raiders were most represented in the consolation 'B' final of the 200-yard breaststroke, which was won by graduate Andrew Hale in a time of 2:04.82 that is just a second off his PR that ranks second in school history. Hale improved by more than two seconds from his morning prelim time.
 
Graduate Vin Salvatore delivered a huge PR for the second straight day, claiming 10th place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.73 that is just .08 seconds shy of cracking the SU Top 10 in the event. Salvatore's previous PR was 2:10, marking a significant new best.
 
Freshman Nate Wauls placed 15th in the event, swimming 2:12.12 at night after a morning prelim of 2:11.70. Sophomore Nathan VanNatter improved his personal best in the event to 2:13.93.
 
Sophomore David Johnson paced the Raiders in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placing sixth with a PR of 16:21.40. Redshirt-junior JC Greenwood added another scoring effort to his ledger in the event with a 13th-place time of 17:00.83.
 
In the 200-yard backstroke, junior Michael Salvatori qualified for the championship 'A' final by virtue of a PR in the morning of 1:52.58 – which moves him ahead of Zak Clifford into third place on SU's all-time list for the event. Salvatori finished seventh overall after an evening swim of 1:53.57.
 
Senior David Bussard scored in the 200-yard backstroke with a 16th-place time of 1:57.07. His morning prelim of 1:55.35 that got him into the consolation final was a new season best.
 
In a time trial, senior Alec Burger delivered a new personal best of 51.42 seconds – his first sub-52 time in the event – which moves him into eighth place all-time at Shippensburg in the event.
 
Sophomore Zaidian Van Orden paced the Raiders in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.33 seconds, while senior Elijah Zinn swam 48.22 seconds. The meet concluded with VanNatter, Van Orden, Zinn and Johnson completing the 400yard freestyle relay in 3:09.49.
