The Shippensburg women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, 63-53, in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Shippensburg (1-7) could not overcome a 14-0 run to open the game by Chestnut Hill (4-4), as the Griffins ended the first quarter with a 20-2 lead. SU outscored the Griffins over the final three quarters, including 16-10 in the third quarter.
Graduate
Treasure George led a second-half comeback effort with all 18 of her points coming in the final two frames. George hit a career-high six threes, shooting 6-for-10 from behind the arc in the second half.
Junior
Abbie Miller recorded her fourth career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior
Taja Colbert finished with 11 points and four assists.
Down 15 points with 4:15 remaining, George and Colbert combined for four three-pointers to help the Raiders cut the lead to as little as six points, but the Griffins continued to answer with scores at the other end and finished 9-of-12 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes.
Sophomore
Ellie Goodwin equaled her career high with six rebounds. Freshman
Bella Chimienti contributed seven points.
Chestnut Hill shot 45.1 percent in the game, scoring 19 points from turnovers. Shippensburg shot 34.5 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range.
Shippensburg will break for finals until returning to action Monday, Dec. 18 with a 5:30 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at California (Pa.).
