The Shippensburg University volleyball team notched its final road win of the regular season with a sweep of Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House. Set scores were 28-26, 25-18 and 26-24.
Â
Shippensburg (20-8, 11-1 PSAC) was led offensively by freshman
Gracen Nutt who dropped the match high of 13 kills on a .313 hitting percentage in addition to six digs. Nutt has now reached double-digit kills in five of her last six matches.
Â
Also efficient from the floor, freshman
Hailey Cappleman swung .533 to contribute nine kills and just one attack error in three sets. Her nine kills are her second-most in a match this season.
Â
Sophomore
Kearstin Davis collected another double-double from the setter position with 35 assists, 10 digs, and a service ace. Davis surpassed 2,000 career assists in the match.
Â
Junior
Maddie Clabaugh gave another strong performance on both sides of the ball with 10 digs, seven kills, four blocks and an ace. Freshman libero
Shay Kolivoski ramped up her return to the court by snagging a team-high 12 digs.
Â
The Raiders remained in control for the majority of the first set, using a 6-2 run in the middle of the frame to propel themselves to a 17-12 lead. A late momentum shift in Bloomsburg's favor pulled the match even at 26-26, but a kill from Clabaugh, combined with a Husky attack error, sealed the set for SU in extra points.
Â
The Raiders picked up their hitting percentage in the second set, swinging a combined .438 for 16 kills and just two attack errors. Despite a slow start, down 6-5, Shippensburg quickly flipped the lead with a 6-1 run that held steady through the rest of the set.
Â
The third set required SU to dip into extra points once more to pull out the victory. The Raiders bounced back from an early deficit to lead by as much as 20-14 before Bloomsburg capitalized on five SU errors to knot the set at 24-24. From there, it was two consecutive Husky mistakes that resulted in the road victory for Shippensburg.
Â
SU returns home for its final weekend of the regular season, first taking on East Stroudsburg on Friday at 7 p.m. in a battle for the top seed in the PSAC East.
