SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped its final match of the 2023 season in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (
PSAC) Eastern Division matchup with Lock Haven, 2–0, on Friday afternoon at David See Field.
The two sides were deadlocked after 45 minutes, but Lock Haven (7–8–3, 4–6–2
PSAC East) struck twice inside the first five minutes of the second half for the only goals in the match.
Senior
Cody Willoughby stopped three shots before halftime, being replaced by senior Ryan
Glenlast for the second half.
Glenlast would go on to make two saves in the second half.
Shippensburg's (4–9–3, 1–9–2) best look in the half came from senior
Luke Henry who found space at the top of the box and fired away a shot into the diving goalkeeper's hands.
Graham
Thurley opened the scoring just 94 seconds into the second half.
Thurley dribbled through defenders along the box before finding a pocket of space to fire his shot into the bottom right corner for the 1–0 advantage.
Connor
Swope doubled the Bald Eagles' lead just three minutes later as Tom
Pombor played in a ball that left
Swope one-on-one with
Glenlast.
Swope took a touch around a charging
Glenlast and was left with a tap-in for 2–0.
The Raiders had several good opportunities to bring one back in the second half, but two shots off the post and several headers wide left SU scoreless. Junior
Abdulrahman Obasa had the Raiders' best chance of the match, gliding past defenders to take a hard left-footed shot from the top of the box.
Obasa's effort hammered off of the woodwork and the rebound hit the diving keeper, went back off of the post and out of play.
