RECAP: Men’s Soccer drops final away match to East Stroudsburg, 3–0

Warriors scored all three goals in the second half

The Shippensburg University men's soccer team lost 3–0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup with East Stroudsburg on Saturday night at Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

It was a goalless first half as neither team saw an abundance of opportunities. Senior Cody Willoughby made two important saves within 80 seconds early on to keep the match deadlocked. Willoughby threw out a big hand to stop a Stelios Melekos shot from 10 yards out, then stuffed another opportunity by Melekos at point-blank range.

Shippensburg (4-8-3, 1-8-2 PSAC East) had two free kicks in dangerous areas, but Aiden Hoopes came out of his net to be the first to the ball on both occasions.

Willoughby finished the match with three saves in the first half as freshman Ryan Krumenacker replaced him for the second half.

East Stroudsburg (7-3-6, 3-3-5) opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half. The Warriors earned a free kick just outside of the box and a quick tap-in to restart play set up a hard shot from distance by Hunter Paone that found the top left corner past Krumenacker.

Cayetano Diaz doubled the East Stroudsburg advantage with a powerful header in the 73rd minute. Ethan Flickinger found space on the wing and played in a big cross to Diaz, who wandered in at the back post for a 2–0 lead.

Colby Raymond added a third goal for the Warriors in the 90th minute. The ball fell to Raymond in space at the top of the box, and the forward tucked his shot into the bottom right corner.

SU kicks off its final match of the season back at 4 p.m. Friday at David See Field as the Raiders host Lock Haven in a PSAC Eastern Division clash.
