The Shippensburg University women's soccer team avenged a loss earlier this season to Mansfield on Saturday by going on the road and dispatching the Mountaineers, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on a frigid, windy night at Van Norman Stadium.
Shippensburg (2-12-0, 2-10-0 PSAC East) scored the only goal of the match in the 33rd minute, coming from a mini-breakaway controlled by freshman
Gabrielle Walker. Walker paced with two defenders in pursuit before firing the ball into the top right corner of the net for the game's only score.
SU used a strong defensive effort to hold Mansfield (3-10-2, 2-9-2 PSAC East) scoreless, with senior
Kendra Barlow making three saves in the match. It was Barlow's first shutout of the season. Both teams faced three shots on goal, and the Raiders held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Raiders will be back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Millersville.
