RECAP: Field Hockey falls at No. 2 East Stroudsburg, 5-1

The Shippensburg University field hockey team was defeated on the road at No. 2 East Stroudsburg on Tuesday afternoon, 5-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Whitenight Field.

Shippensburg (12-3, 6-1 PSAC) scored 51 seconds into the match on a rebound goal by freshman Hannah White and led 1-0 after the first quarter, but East Stroudsburg (12-2, 5-1) responded with a three-goal second quarter and tilted the field in the second half.

The hosts were held without a shot on goal in the opening 15 minutes but scored on all three of their shots on goal in the second quarter, including a goal with just four seconds left in the half, to lead 3-1 at intermission.

ESU then recorded 12 shots on goal and nine penalty corners in just the third quarter alone, scoring twice. Sophomore defender Plinke Hillen was credited with three defensive saves in the third quarter, stopping Warrior scoring chances as the last line of defense.

Redshirt-sophomore Emma Albee earned the start in goal and made two saves in 36 minutes of action, allowing four goals. Junior Lindsay Tripodo entered in relief and was credited with eight saves in 24 minutes of action, allowing one goal.

Shots on goal were 18-2 in East Stroudsburg's favor, and corners were 11-7. Nicole Kroszer scored twice, while Madison Kline, while Kerry Kaufman and Jady Van Gils also added goals for the Warriors.

The victory was pivotal in the battle for the PSAC's No. 1 seed, as it gives East Stroudsburg a head-to-head tiebreaker over Shippensburg. Both the Warriors and the Raiders are currently the only one-loss teams in the league standings. ESU has three conference matchups remaining; SU has two to play.

Shippensburg will have another road match this weekend, traveling to face IUP at 4 p.m. Saturday at Miller Stadium.
