SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team improved to 10-2 overall as it took down East Stroudsburg, 71-44, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener Wednesday night at Heiges Field House. 
 
Shippensburg (10-2, 5-1 PSAC) controlled the tempo in all four quarters, holding East Stroudsburg (7-5, 3-3) 14 points below its season scoring average. SU opened the game on a 13-2 run and led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter. 
 
Senior Ariel Jones led all players with 16 points while going 8-of-10 from the charity stripe and breaking the all-time PSAC record in free throws made with 727. She also contributed seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Cal's Miki Glenn made 724 free throws from 2013-17.
 
The Raiders held Warriors guard Ryan Weise, the PSAC's most accurate three-point shooter (57.0 percent), to 1-of-6 from behind the arc. SU also held the Warriors to its lowest overall three-point percentage (23.8) of the season.
 
Junior Treasure George added 11 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor, and brought down seven rebounds. Senior Lauren Pettis also scored 11 points, hitting her single-game career high in field-goal percentage at a perfect 5-of-5. 
 
Sophomore Abbie Miller went a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor, contributing nine points and grabbing eight rebounds and dishing three assists. Graduate Erin Gibbons added nine points, shooting 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
 
Off the bench, graduate Mya Woodyard went a perfect 3-of-3 from the foul line and added five points. Sophomore Taja Colbert and freshman Makayla Foddrell each contributed four points, with Foddrell bringing down four rebounds. 
 
Shippensburg shot 50 percent from the field, its third time this season. 
 
The Raiders' tenth win of the season is their fastest to 10 wins in a season – the last time SU had a 10-2 start was in 2001-02, reaching 10 wins on Jan. 6. 
 
The Raiders are on the road this Saturday in their final crossover game at Edinboro at 1 p.m.
