RECAP: Men’s Soccer drops PSAC East opener to rival West Chester, 3-0

Golden Rams score early to set the tone

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night in the first game of PSAC Eastern Division play, falling 3-0 to rival West Chester.

Shippensburg (2-1-0, 0-1-0 PSAC East) managed just three shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Cody Willoughby made a season-high eight saves in the contest.

West Chester found the back of the net early when Owen Slack slammed home a ricochet after a headed cross from Craig Potts at the 1:03 mark to give the Golden Rams an early 1-0 lead.

The Raiders would keep West Chester off the scoresheet until the 64th minute when Trevor Looby put a pass from AJ Peev in off the left post to extend the lead to 2-0. Landon Wenger sealed it in the 72nd minute, finishing a rebound off the post from a shot by Ryan Keenan to make it 3-0.

West Chester finished the match with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-5 advantage in corners.

The Raiders will return to the pitch at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they travel to face reigning PSAC Champion Millersville.
