SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team recorded a sweep in its home opener against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night in a non-conference match, defeating the Griffins 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (5-4) received another strong performance from senior
Kaitlyn Townsend, who led the Raiders with 10 kills and four blocks. Fellow senior
Rachel Verhoef also had a strong performance with six kills and three blocks. Verhoef hit just two errors in 13 attempts, swinging .308.

Jackie Sterenberg delivered an efficient performance with five kills, five digs, a block and an ace. Freshman setter
Kearstin Davis led the team with 22 assists, while fellow freshman
Erica Lampus led the team with 11 digs. Seven different Raiders had at least one ace, with Davis pacing the team with two aces.

Chestnut Hill (1-7) hit just .077 as a team and had 24 errors. The Griffins battled to close the margins and held leads in each set. However, when the Raiders took the lead in each set, they did not relinquish it. SU had just one error in the first set and had an efficient hitting .202 percentage for the match.

Shippensburg travels to West Liberty and Wheeling for the PSAC/MEC Crossover starting on Friday at 1 p.m. against West Liberty.
