SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team won its first set on Friday night but fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division competitor Kutztown, 3-1. Set scores were 25-23. 23-25, 22-25 and 17-25.

Shippensburg (7-8, 1-1 PSAC East) sophomore
Kat Negron led the Raiders with 16 kills and three aces. Freshman setter
Kearstin Davis had 28 assists and 17 digs.

The Raiders started off strong by defeating Kutztown (7-6, 1-1) in the first set, 25-23, after they took a 6-1 lead in the first set. SU was not able to take a lead in the second, but freshman
Berkley Simmons served five straight points closing the gap at the end of the set to 23-19.

Kutztown took the final two sets with strong offensive play. The Golden Bears hit an impressive .560 in the fourth set to win the match. Kutztown's Sadie Doss had 18 kills and Adrianna Derstine had 17.

Shippensburg is set to host East Stroudsburg tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Heiges Field House.
