The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday to complete the Mountain East Conference (MEC)/ Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover, falling to Fairmont State in five sets before suffering a sweep at the hands of host Wheeling in action from the Alma Grace McDonough Center.
Shippensburg (6-7) fought back from two sets down, but fell short to Fairmont State (11-1) by set scores of 23-25, 13-25, 25-19, 26-24, 10-15. The Raiders had at least 30 kills in each match but finished the day with a total of 57 errors.
Senior
Oyinda Agbale led the Raiders against Fairmont State with her third double-digit kill match this season, totaling a team-high 12 kills to go along with two blocks. She added eight kills and two block assists against Wheeling (5-6).
Fellow senior
Rachel Verhoef had eight kills in both matches and finished the day with four block assists. Sophomore
Maddie Clabaugh totaled 11 kills, while senior
Jackie Sterenberg added 14 kills, three service aces and 15 digs for the day.
Freshman
Kearstin Davis led the team in assists and digs against Fairmont State with 37 assists and 12 digs. She added 27 assists against Wheeling, and fellow freshman
Erica Lampus had 11 digs.
Shippensburg begins its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule next week with a Friday home match at 7 p.m. against Shepherd.
