SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team has named
Chris McKim as its full-time assistant coach.
Â
McKim arrives at Shippensburg after serving two seasons as the head men's volleyball coach at Siena Heights University. He finished his tenure with the Saints accumulating a 26-14 overall record. In his second season, the Saints finished with a 15-7 season record and a 9-5 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) record. It marked the most conference wins in the program's 13-year history. During McKim's first season with the Saints, he led the team to an 11-7 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the WHAC. The team also notched three ranked wins and Siena Heights became nationally ranked for the first time in program history.
While at Siena Heights, McKim coached two-time NAIA All-American honorable mention and two-time WHAC Libero of the Year Joudiel Poveymirow, WHAC Setter of the Year Keegan Crawford, WHAC Setter of the Year Zak Tucker, NAIA All-American honorable mention and WHAC Newcomer of the Year Ramon Matos, and First Team All-WHAC Shevin Blades.
"Chris has made a smooth transition into our program and is already making a positive impact on our team," said head coach
Leanne Piscotty. "He has a great eye for technique and our women have responded very positively to his coaching style. I am grateful to have someone with so much experience in all aspects of coaching and think he is an excellent addition to our Raider family."
Before Siena Heights, McKim spent two seasons as the head men's volleyball coach at Graceland University. In 2019, McKim's first season as a collegiate head coach, the Yellowjackets upset the No. 7-ranked team in the nation on their way to becoming the most improved men's volleyball team in the NAIA. The 2020 campaign closed early due to COVID, but McKim's Yellowjackets still matched a program record of six conference wins. Â
Prior to Graceland, McKim spent four seasons as the assistant coach for the men's and women's volleyball teams at Siena Heights under Head Coach Kim Berrington. The 2018 men's volleyball team finished 19-7, a school record, that included a win over the No. 5-ranked team in the nation. The 2017 women's team finished 25-7, a school record, with three regular-season tournament wins at Concordia, Siena Heights, and Aquinas-Cornerstone. Earlier in the spring of 2017, the men's team finished 16-11 after beating a top-ten ranked team for the first time in school history. In 2016, the women's team posted a solid record of 21-12. McKim finished with a combined 81-37 overall record.
McKim's last women's season in 2017, the team had five All-WHAC players and nine Academic All-WHAC players and the best winning percentage in school history. In 2016, he coached the WHAC Freshman of the Year and Region Freshman of the Year and an Academic All-American – all of which were the first in school history. Â
Prior to collegiate coaching, McKim spent six years as a history teacher and coach at Nogales High School in Arizona.
A native of Wexford, McKim is a proud graduate of North Allegheny High School, the defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Champions in both boys' and girls' volleyball. McKim earned his bachelor's degree from Grove City College in 2009 and his master's degree from Siena Heights University in 2018.
McKim replaces Xiomara Ortiz, who was named the head coach at Morgan State University.
