Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Saturday, winning 7-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at East Stroudsburg.
Shippensburg (1-8, 1-1 PSAC East) dominated each of the contested doubles and singles matches, as East Stroudsburg (0-2, 0-2) won just seven games across the board.
The Warriors had only four players and had to forfeit No. 5 and No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, which gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead before the doubles and singles matches started.
At No. 1 doubles, the senior pair of
Jenna Sluymer and
Jazmin Petrantonio took control of the match and won 6-1. At No. 2 doubles the freshman pair of
Kendall Winters and
Brooklynn Rupert took charge of the match and won 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, Sluymer was aggressive and won 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, sophomore
Brighid Cantwell used her backhand slices and serve to take a 6-2, 6-0 win. At No. 3 singles, senior
Kayla Tryanski utilized her forehand and attacked the opponent's second serve for a 6-1, 6-2 win. With the match already clinched, sophomore
Merel Hoekstra played a pro-set to eight at No. 4 singles and won 8-0.
Shippensburg recorded its first shutout win since April 2, 2016 against Cheyney.
The Raiders will host West Chester at 3 p.m. Tuesday in another conference matchup at Robb Sports Complex.
