SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior
Hannah Marsteller established herself as the school record holder for career home runs and career RBIs on Saturday as the Shippensburg University softball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play with a split against Shepherd, winning Game 1, 8-1, and losing Game 2, 3-2, at Robb Field.

In Marsteller's first at-bat of the day, she hit a two-run home run to center field that brought her to 40 career home runs and 157 career RBIs. Not only has she surpassed Hope Cornell's previous home run record, but the home run moved her past Jaime Dacey's career RBI record of 156. Of note, Marsteller reached 157 RBIs in just 384 career at-bats (Dacey totaled 156 RBIs in 629 at-bats).

Shippensburg (13-11, 1-1) totaled 24 hits in the doubleheader, including 17 in Game 1. Sophomore
Morgan Lindsay hit a grand slam in the opener and an RBI-double in Game 2, finishing with four hits and five RBIs.

Taylor Myers was 5-for-7 in the doubleheader while senior
Morgan DeFeo was 4-for-6.

Alyssa Nehlen had three hits and an RBI. Marsteller and freshman
Katelyn Minney both had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman
Aryanna Briddell had two hits, including a double in Game 2.

Shippensburg will play its next four doubleheaders on the road, beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family.

Game 1: Shippensburg 8, Shepherd 1

Shippensburg got the two-run home run in the bottom of the first by Marsteller and added another run in the second inning on an infield single by Minney.

Shepherd (7-11, 1-1) answered with a run in the fourth inning to reduce the deficit to 3-1, but in the bottom of the fourth, the bases were full of Raiders and sophomore
Morgan Lindsay hit a grand slam to left field for a 7-1 lead. In the fifth, Minney hit a sacrifice fly to create the final scoring margin.

Freshman
Alicia Ball started in the circle for the Raiders and threw a complete game, allowing eight hits (all singles) and struck out nine Rams – one short of her season high. Â

Game 2: Shepherd 3, Shippensburg 2

The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single by Nehlen. The Rams responded in the top of the fourth inning with a walk and an RBI-triple by Nicole Purtell; Purtell also scored on the play due to an error. Cameron Davis then doubled to chase sophomore starter
Emma Flattery, who retired the first nine batters she faced including three by strikeout.

Shepherd plated a third run in the inning due to an error with two outs. Lindsay hit an RBI-double in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-2, but Ram starting pitcher Katie Laing kept the Raiders off the board the rest of the way.

Sophomore
Maelynn Leber was one of two relief pitchers for the Raiders, recording three outs. Redshirt-sophomore
Maddie Uschock finished for the Raiders, throwing three innings, allowing one hit, and striking out three Rams.
