The Shippensburg University softball team held Holy Family at bay on Tuesday, sweeping the Tigers by scores of 10-2 (six innings) and 6-3 on a cloudy afternoon at Bensalem High School.

Shippensburg (15-11) recorded 16 runs on 20 hits over the doubleheader, including eight for extra bases. SU got three solo home runs in Game 2 from junior
Hannah Marsteller, who became the first Raider in more than 20 years to hit three home runs in a single game.

Marsteller went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with the three solo home runs, a double, four RBIs and six runs scored. Six Raiders had multiple hits, including sophomore
Alyssa Nehlen, who was 3-for-5 and drew two walks. Freshman
Morgan Brumbaugh was 2-for-4 with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs.

Morgan Lindsay had two doubles, three RBIs and drew a walk. Freshman
Aryanna Briddell had two hits and a career-high three RBIs. Senior
Morgan DeFeo had a double and drew a walk.

Shippensburg will travel to East Stroudsburg on Friday for a divisional doubleheader at 2 p.m.

Game 1: Shippensburg 10, Holy Family 2 (sixth inning)

Shippensburg opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning and added another run in the third inning on a single by Briddell. The Raiders scored four more runs -- two from a Holy Family (8-23) error and two from a single by Briddell – to take an 8-0 lead.

The Tigers scored two runs off Raider errors to reduce the deficit 8-2. Lindsay topped off Game 1 with a two-run double to center field that ended the game after six innings. Â

The reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, freshman
Alicia Ball threw a complete game and had a no-hitter until the fifth inning. She allowed only two hits and two unearned runs with seven strikeouts.

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, Holy Family 3

The Raiders opened with a solo home run by Marsteller in the first inning, but the Tigers answered back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to even the score at 1-1. Shippensburg struck again in the fourth with an RBI-double by Lindsay and a sacrifice fly by Brumbaugh, but again Holy Family answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Raiders gained momentum after a solo home run again by Marsteller in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Brumbaugh singled to center field for an RBI single and a 5-3 lead, and Marsteller capped the night off with her career-high third home run in the seventh. Â

Freshman
Katelyn Minney started in the circle for the Raiders and allowed three hits. Junior
Hannah Palinkas came in during the first inning as one of two relief pitchers. She threw 3.0 innings, allowing four hits and recording a season-high four strikeouts. Sophomore
Emma Flattery threw the last 3.2 innings and allowed two hits and a posted a season-high eight strikeouts.
