The Shippensburg University women's tennis team came up short against Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday in Florida, dropping a 7-0 match to the Cardinals at the Fort Gatlin Complex.
Â
Shippensburg (0-6) and Saginaw Valley (4-4) played an accelerated match in an effort to beat an oncoming rainstorm, agreeing to play a single pro-set to eight games in singles and a set in doubles.
Â
Sophomore
Brighid Cantwell, sophomore
Merel Hoekstra and junior
Sahar Islam each won a game in their respective singles matches.
Â
Seniors
Jenna Sluymer and
Jazmin Petrantonio trailed 3-2 in their match at No. 2 doubles when the storm siren rang to halt play. The match had already been decided at that point, so the remainder of play was abandoned.
Â
SU's evening match against Cornerstone was canceled.
Â
Shippensburg will conclude its Florida trip on Thursday with a match against Saint Cloud State at 12:30 p.m.Â
