SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team collected three wins in a close battle against Pitt-Greensburg but fell short to the Bobcats by a score of 4-3 at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (0-7) earned its three points in singles play from sophomore
Brighid Cantwell, sophomore
Merel Hoekstra and senior
Kayla Tryanski.

At No. 2 singles, Cantwell was triumphant in straight sets with a dominant first set, 6-0, and then took the second set 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Tryanski swept past her opponent with a 6-2, 6-1 win. At No. 6 singles, Hoekstra collected her first collegiate singles win, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, the freshmen pairing ofÂ
Kendall Winters and
Brooklynn Rupert gave the Raiders the win, in the No. 3 flight, 6-2.

Pitt-Greensburg earned the doubles point but was trailing 3-1 as the Raiders claimed the first three singles matches. The Bobcats came back to tie the match at 3-3 after winning at No. 1 singles match in three sets. The match came down to No. 4 singles. Winters won the first set 6-3 but lost the second set 6-2. In the third set, Winters was down 5-2 but came back to make it 5-4 but fell just short in the end.

The Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Kutztown for its first conference opener at Robb Sports Complex.
