RECAP: Lacrosse drops Senior Day match to Kutztown, 15-11

Seniors score 10 times on Saturday for the Raiders

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team got 10 goals from its seniors on Saturday but could not maintain an early lead against visiting Kutztown, dropping a 15-11 decision to the Golden Bears on a windy and cold Senior Day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-6, 0-4 PSAC East) out-scored Kutztown (4-3, 1-2) by a 6-2 margin in the bookend quarters (first and fourth quarter), but the Golden Bears scored 13 goals in the middle quarters to build an insurmountable advantage.

Senior Hannah Seifried once again paced the Raiders with four goals – her third straight hat trick – to complement two assists and four draw controls. Graduate Alana Cardaci scored three goals to achieve her third hat trick of the season.

Senior Gabby Savarino scored twice and led the Raiders with six draw controls. Freshman Sara Vosburg had a goal and four draw controls. Senior Hope Shearer scored her second career goal on a tally in the final 15 seconds of the game in the midst of a snow squall, as the weather deteriorated by game's end.

Senior Jena MacDonald added three more assists to her season total, giving her 22 for the season and 84 for her career. She is seven assists off her single-season career high and 10 assists shy of the school record held by Lindsey Kennedy (94 from 2010-13). Senior Sydney Costanza also had an assist in Saturday's game.

Senior Kayla Jones led the Raiders with five groundballs and was one of five Raiders with multiple groundballs. Senior defender McKenna Keller and freshman goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg each had three groundballs.

Vosburg played the first 30 minute in goal while senior KiKi Brasher played the second half. Brasher made five saves.

Kutztown got hat tricks from four players (Lailah ElBouazzaoui, Olivia Eilbacher, Emma Meakim and Sam Graf) and eight draw controls from Cyrose Conteh. Goalkeeper Jenna Blesson made 10 saves.

Before the match, Shippensburg honored its senior class: Brasher, Cardaci, Clairanne Chairs, Costanza, Jones, Keller, MacDonald, senior Hannah Raines, Savarino, senior Kasey Schuchardt, Seifried and Shearer.

Shippensburg is at IUP at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
