SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's basketball team held Mansfield to 32-percent shooting on Saturday afternoon as it exacted some revenge on the Mountaineers with a 65-47 victory on Alumni Day and 'Think Pink' Day in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (12-9, 8-7 PSAC) opened the second half on a 13-2 run to extend a five-point halftime lead into a 16-point advantage late in the third quarter. The Raider lead remained in double digits for the rest of the contest.
Junior
Lauren Pettis led the Raiders with 14 points and nine rebounds, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double. She added two blocks, one steal and an assist. Pettis was 7-of-8 from the field and had no turnovers.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson contributed 12 points and four rebounds. She added six assists – five of her assists came in the first half.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green added 11 points and nine rebounds; she was also just one rebound shy of a double-double. Green had three steals, two assists, and was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Freshman
Taja Colbert was a fourth Raider in double figures with 10 points. She added two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Junior
Lauren Mills contributed six points and eight rebounds. Freshman
Ali Hauck had five rebounds, three points, two blocks and an assist in the eight minutes she played.
Shippensburg posted a 46-32 rebound advantage over Mansfield and scored 40 of its 65 points in the paint. The Raiders scored 10 points off Mansfield turnovers.
Mansfield (6-13, 5-10 PSAC) was led by Jasmine Hilton with 13 points and Logan Nutt with 12 points.
Before the game, a celebration of the 1995-96 women's basketball team took place. SU celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Raider squad that played in the NCAA National Championship Game. The '96 Raiders won the first of a conference-record six straight PSAC Championships and also won the East Region before its pair of victories in the NCAA Elite Eight.
Shippensburg will travel to Millersville on Monday night for a 6 p.m. clash with the Marauders at Pucillo Gymnasium.
