The Shippensburg University women's basketball team snapped Millersville's three-game winning streak on Monday night, taking down the Marauders by a score of 75-57 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Pucillo Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (13-9, 9-7 PSAC) trailed most of the first quarter until a three-pointer by senior
Destiny Jefferson gave the Raiders a 16-15 lead. SU went on a 7-0 run at the end of the second quarter after Millersville (6-15, 5-11) had re-gained the lead with 1:09 left in the second quarter.
SU closed the game on a 10-0 run, holding Millersville scoreless in the final two minutes, to clinch the victory. The Marauders got as close as five points of the lead in the second half.
Shippensburg dominated the boards, posting a 44-23 rebound advantage over Millersville. SU's 18 offensive rebounds were just five rebounds less than Millersville had overall. The Raiders also shot 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from behind the three-point line – its seven three-pointers are tied for the second-most in a game this season.
Jefferson led the Raiders with 22 points and six rebounds. She added three steals, two assists and committed just one turnover. She was 4-of-8 from the behind the arc, including four of her last five.
Freshman
Taja Colbert stepped up with a career high of 16 points. She was 7-of-9 from the field and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Junior
Lauren Pettis had her fifth double-double this season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line and added three assists.
Fellow junior
Aunbrielle Green was the fourth Raider in double figures with 11 points and eight rebounds. She had a game high of four assists and also had three steals. Junior
Lauren Mills added two blocks and three rebounds.
Off the bench, sophomore
Treasure George contributed with six points and three rebounds. Redshirt-junior
Erin Gibbons had three steals.
Millersville was led by Lauren Lister with 21 points while Mikayla Shaw and Mia Leonard both had 10 points.
Shippensburg is back in action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts West Chester at Heiges Field House.
