The Shippensburg University women's basketball team closed on a 9-2 run in the final 2:30 on Saturday to snap host Bloomsburg's six-game winning streak and hand the Huskies their first home loss of the season, as the Raiders claimed a 64-54 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Nelson Field House.
Shippensburg (16-10, 12-8 PSAC) held Bloomsburg (18-9, 15-5) to 27-percent shooting in the first half and led by nine at halftime, 31-22. SU opened the game on a 5-0 run and led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter after a 12-2 scoring run.
Bloomsburg used an 11-2 run in the third quarter to flip the script and led 42-40 with 1:55 left in the frame. SU evened the score at 45-45 after three quarters and held the Huskies to nine points in the fourth quarter to claim the win.
Shippensburg posted a 46-34 rebound advantage over Bloomsburg. The Raiders scored 36 points in the paint and 12 points off fast breaks.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with her first double-double of the season and the third of her career, totaling 24 points and 10 rebounds and playing all 40 minutes. She went 10-of-11 at the free-throw line, matching her single-game career high for made free throws, and scored seven of SU's last nine points in the decisive final minutes.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green posted nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds – her fifth game this season with double-digit rebounds. Junior
Lauren Mills contributed eight points, six rebounds and a steal.
Bloomsburg was led by Meghan Corridoni with 13 points. Megan Fisher and Emma Saxton had 11 points.
The victory secures Shippensburg no worse than the No. 4 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament – meaning at least one home playoff game.
Shippensburg will travel to Shepherd on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest at the Butcher Athletic Center.
